Archimedes

Archimedes was a greek mathematician and scientist. He gave the law of floatation of bodies which explained the loss in weight in a liquid and how bodies float on water. His popular invention was the water screw by which water could be lifted up.It consisted of a cylindrical vessel in which in which a wide screw moved up and down.It is useful in places where there are no pumps to lift water for irrigation.
Archimedes also evovled the laws of pulleys and levers. He challenged that he would lift the earth with a lever, provided with proper lengthand a proper place to hook its one end.
Amongst his invention he also invented the value of pi (π ) which is used to measure the circumference and area of circles. He also wrote many books on floating bodies, balances and levers, mesurement of the circle, sphere and cylinder.
